Coscoroba Swans for Sale
Coscoroba Swans are a great way to expand a backyard poultry flock. These birds are long-lived and gorgeous, one of the most beautiful waterfowl.
Description: The Coscoroba Swan is the smallest species. For both males and females, the body length is 3-4 feet. Males have a wingspan of 18-19 inches, but females have a wingspan of 17-18 inches. The white plumage, pink bill, and pink feet make them very distinctive.
Range: This species of swan is found all over southern South America as far north as central Chile.
Habitat: The Coscoroba swan lives in shallow areas of freshwater that are surrounded by vegetation.
Status in the Wild: The wild population is small but stable, and is not considered endangered. The main threat to this species is habitat loss.
Breeding: They breed in spring and summer beginning at age 3, and have the same mate for life. Breeding swans can be very territorial.
Incubation: The female will incubate a clutch of 3-7 eggs for approximately 5 weeks. Male swans guard the nest when the female leaves to eat.
Lifespan: In captivity, they can live up to 35 years, and 7 years in the wild.
Weight: Adult males weigh 9-12 lbs. on average, but adult females weigh 7-10 lbs.
Housing Requirements: Introductions to the new environment should be made from behind fencing since the swans need time to adjust. They need water to swim, eat, and mate in.
Miscellaneous notes: Coscoroba Swans are pinioned before they arrive to you so they are unable to fly away.
