Buy Fife Fancy Canary Online. Fife Fancy Canaries for sale, (Serinus canaria domesticus) also called the Fife Canary, is a lively, delightful canary that is very popular because it is so easy to keep. The Fife canary is a type of canary, bred for its physical appearance rather than for its color or song. It is a smaller version of the border canary and is available in a wide variety of colors ( yellow variegated and green). The male has a very pleasant song and Fife Canaries tend to be ready breeders who also take good care of their young. Despite its small size, the Fife canary is full of energy and personality and is very endearing. They are not prone to disease, come in all the canary colors, and the male has a wonderful pleasant song.
Geography: The Fife Fancy Canary was developed in the 1950s in and around the county of Fife in Scotland.
Size / Weight: 4″
Sexing: Mono-morphic (visually difficult to determine sex.) DNA testing at The Finch Farm is available to ensure the desired gender.
Temperament: They are good-natured social creatures that do well when kept in cages or in aviaries. However, The Fife Fancy Canaries are timid birds and should not be housed with parakeets, lovebirds, or other hookbills that tend to be more aggressive birds by nature. Male canaries should be kept in a cage by themselves to ensure quality singing. Males can be territorial and pairing up with two male canaries in a cage can cause fights. In a spacious aviary, canaries can generally be housed with other canaries, finches, and other hardbills. Fife Fancy Canaries like to bathe daily. Their environment should not be wet, cool, or drafty, and if they are given space to sunbathe, they should also have a shaded area to protect them from too much sun. Keep perches clean to avoid any foot problems. They prefer swings for entertainment.
Breeding: The Fife Fancy Canary is a ready breeder making it a good choice for a beginner. Most canaries breed easily and readily if provided with quality food, lighting, secure surroundings, and conditioning. The breeding season for most canaries is usually from December to April.
Lifespan: 10 years.
Diet: Canary Seed, Dried Egg Food, Cuttlefish Bone, Mineral Grit, veggies and fruits, and Australian Blend Goldenfeast.
DNA Testing
If there is no gender option listed for a bird on our website, that particular species is ‘monomorphic’, which means we’re unable to determine gender without purchasing DNA testing. DNA testing is an additional $149 per bird to guarantee preferred gender. DNA testing may add an additional 3-6 plus weeks to the estimated delivery time to allow for gender results.
